Optics, Optical Phenomena and the Eye

Abstract

As are Newton's Laws, optics and optical phenomena are so prevalent in our every day life that it is hard to avoid thinking about them. Only with optics, people tend not to take them so for granted and frequently ask questions such as "why is the sky blue?" Various optical phenomena are easy to explain with only a rudimentary understanding of a the very complex subject of optics. We will discuss reflection, refraction, diffraction, blue sky, rainbows, and image formation. Then we will talk about how the eye works, common problems with the eye, and how they are corrected with laser surgery.
