Randolph College Science Day

The Randolph College Society of Physics Students and Education Department  would like to invite all 3rd through 6th graders in the Lynchburg area to take part in our exciting Science Day.
We would also like to invite teachers to attend, to bring your students, and to register to receive recertification points and access to educational resources.

Fill out the online application form. Applications will be accepted until we have 200 students. When we reach the limit, the online application will not longer be available. THE REGISTRATION DEADLINE HAS PASSED, SORRY! You will not receive confirmation other than the confirmation you get when you click submit on the online application. Details:

  • There must be a parent or guardian present for all students (one adult can bring a group of students). Parents can observe or can relax in a provided space. Snacks and coffee are available for purchase.
  • Additional information for teachers can be found here. We invite teachers to bring your classes, and for the teachers to register to receive lesson plans and additional classroom information.
  • There will be exciting activities and wonderful prizes. All students will be given a t-shirt, a light snack, and a certificate of completion.
  • Students do not need to prepare or bring anything. They should wear comfortable clothing for activities indoors and out, and they should eat lunch before they come.
  • Students will be divided into groups and guided through a series of science demonstrations and activities that reinforce the Virginia Standards of Learning in Science. Activities include a trivia contest (science content knowledge), building contest (Newton’s Laws), science obstacle course (motion, friction), science demonstration shows (chemistry/polymers, electricity, & earth science), science activity booths, and a science scavenger hunt
  • As well as the main sponsorship from AREVA, this event is funded by grants from the Marcs White Award from the Society of Physics Students, and the Bauder Fund from the American Association of Physics Teachers.
