R-MWC's 2007
Science Day, put on by the Society of Physics Students with the help of the
Education Department was a huge success. Held on Saturday, March 31, from
noon to 4 pm, kids were led through six activities that included a botany
scavenger hunt, a lightning demo show, a science quiz show, mini science
project booths, an earthquake shake table building contest, and a boat
building contest. Twice as many as last year, 150 3rd-6th graders showed up
with about 100 family members in tow. The amazing 40 R-MWC student
volunteers were able to educate and keep the crowd in order and on schedule.
The participating children were given a t-shirt, a certificate of
completion, keepsakes, snacks, and prizes were
awarded. The event was sponsored by AREVA and the R-MWC Student Government
Association. At the end of the day, when one volunteer asked the children
assembled in the gym to "stand up if you like science," the entire crowd
jumped up with a deafening cheer. Next year's science day will be held on
Saturday, March 29. Information
